Melbourne-based folk quartet
Gaelic for topsy-turvy, Tapsalteerie lives up to its name. The band performs original music, best described as a curious mishmash of folk, Celtic, jazz, country & blues with a strong connection to place. Featuring catchy tunes, vibrant arrangements, driving rhythms, and a touch of nostalgia, Tapsalteerie is establishing itself as a force on Melbourne’s live scene.
Comprised of Meredith Beardmore (flute), Timothy Franklin (guitar/keyboards), Isaac Gunnoo (bass) and Maddison Carter (drums), Tapsalteerie represents a truly contemporary Australian folk sound. The group’s approach is founded in each member’s strong identity and in the eclecticism and rhythmic vitality of Meredith’s tunes. Through skilful arrangements and virtuosic musicianship, Tapsalteerie combine modern and ancient sounds to create vibrant new music that is respectful of its forebears.
Tapsalteerie formed as a quartet in 2020 and after a tumultuous first year, they look forward to playing more live gigs! They started 2021 on the right foot by jointly winning the People’s Choice in Cygnet Folk Festival’s Song & Tune Competition.
Tapsalteerie creates music that is inspired by people and place. We create on the lands of the Wurundjeri people and we acknowledge their deep and ongoing connection and knowledge. We pay our respects to their elders past, present, and emerging.
